We had a very nice party to celebrate Easter. The residents enjoyed a good sing a long and danced away.

The chef made a buffet for all the residents and family members who attended.

Bridging the Generation Gap

As part of the festive season,  The Old Vicarage Residential Home in North Featherstone has been doing a series of events. These have been in partnership with local charities and schools.

On 8th December, children from North Featherstone Junior School, and volunteers from the All Saints Church came to the care home and spent a wonderful day with the residents. The highlight of the day was when they sang Christmas Carols together. The children had put a lot of effort into preparing for the day.

Mr J Singh, owner of The Old Vicarage Care home stated, “We need to bear in mind that the average age of residents in the carehome is 85 years old, and these children are 8 & 9 years old. It is important to bridge the generation gap. The children invigorate the residents, providing stimulation and enjoyment. Equally the children can interact with the elderly and learn from their life experiences. It was an excellent day, which everyone enjoyed.”

Children from Junior School

Two days later, residents from The Old Vicarage care home attended an event at St Wilfred School. They were treated to music and interacted with the teachers and children. Jean Chilton, the manager at the Old Vicarage care home stated, “we have a good relationship with St Wilfreds School. It is a good experience for the teenagers at the school to interact with our residents, and the teachers are very kind and helpful. Our residents get a chance to share and enjoy their experiences.”

More events are happening at the Old Vicarage Care Home during the festive season, including Christmas parties, visits by Santa and a Wii Olympics competition for residents. The home always aims to provide a stimulating environment for the residents. Age should be no barrier to fun!
